5. They say that living in the country is better than living in a city. What do you think about this?
Most people live in cities. As far as I know 75 percent of the population of the Republic of Belarus lives in cities and towns. Life in a big city has a lot of advantages, such as better job and education opportunities, a wide choice of entertainments and places of interest. Of course, there are some disadvantages, too. They are: noise and air pollution, traffic jams, a hasty pace of life. Life in the country has its advantages and disadvantages, too. The main advantages are: picturesque landscapes and the clean air, while the disadvantages are: the lack of educational and job opportunities, no hospitals and no supermarkets. So people prefer to live in cities because life is more convenient there. As for me I live in the city of Vitebsk. It’s a beautiful city situated in the north-eastern part of Belarus. Vitebsk is not very big, about 360 thousand people live here today. It’s a famous place. Outstanding painters Mark Shagal and Kazemir Malevich were born in Vitebsk. But I suppose, its main attraction is Slavyansky Bazaar. A lot of people come to Vitebsk in summer to take part in it. I love my native city very much. I think it’s a good place to live in.
I would like to live in a city because a big city offers more opportunities to succeed in life. For me it’s very important to get a good education and a prestigious job in the future. That’s why I would prefer to live in a city.
I will ask my parents a lot of questions about our new flat / house. They are: What part of the city will the flat be situated? How many rooms will it have? Will I have a room of my own? Is there a bus stop nearby?
I will recommend my friend to live in a city because city life offers us more opportunities to succeed in life. There are a lot of educational institutions, fitness centers, cinemas, theatres, museums, cafes and restaurants. There are much more chances to get a well-paid job. So I think my friend should live in a city.
Some people think that living in the country is better than living in a city. But I don’t think so. In my opinion life in the country is very boring. There are no cinemas and theatres there, no cafes, no well-paid jobs. It goes without saying there are beautiful rivers and lakes, wonderful forests but unfortunately, life in the country offers very few chances to build a successful career.
